UNIT 4: PAST TENSE

What did you do yesterday? And on your last holidays?
Do you remember how to use the past tense in English?
Have a look at this video.

With most verbs, the regular past tense is formed by adding –ed:

  • She wanted to buy a new car.
  • He liked the football match last Saturday.
  • I called the police when I saw the accident.

But there are a lot of irregular past tense forms in English.

  • I went to the cinema yesterday.
  • My sister had a baby last Friday.
  • He drove me to school because I was late.

UNIT 5: FUTURE TENSE

There are different ways of referring to the future in English.
We use will + infinitive when...

     - we make predictions about the future or express beliefs.

I think Brazil will win the World Cup.

I think you will enjoy the trip.

     - we decide something at the moment of speaking.

(The phone rings) I’ll get it.
We use going to + infinitive when...
     - we talk about plans or intentions.

I'm not going to go to the dance. I've got too much work.

We are going to buy a dog next week.

     - we make predictions based on evidence.

Look at those black clouds! I think it's going to rain this afternoon.

We use present continuous ( to be + -ing) when we talk about arrangements.

I'm meeting my friends at the café tomorrow afternoon.

My sister is going to the doctor tomorrow.
